Privacy Policy
In short: Bill Will Sort has no accounts. Your receipts, photos and card details are read and stored on your iPhone. When the app emails a receipt to a business’s bills address, the receipt passes through our mail service only to be delivered and is not kept. We don’t sell or share your data, and the app contains no analytics, advertising or tracking.
This policy explains what the Bill Will Sort iPhone app (“the app”), published by ScreenApp Pty Ltd (“we”), does with your information.
Information stored on your iPhone
The app keeps the following in its private storage on your device. It is not sent to us.
- Receipt photos you scan, import or choose from your photo library, and the text read from them.
- Receipt details such as merchant, date, amounts, tax, category and the last 4 digits of the card shown on the receipt.
- Businesses and cards you set up: names, colours, email addresses you enter for a business, and card nicknames with their last 4 digits. Full card numbers are never stored.
- Card payments logged by the optional Shortcuts automation: merchant, amount, card name and time of payment.
- Where a receipt was captured, when location is available (see below).
- Settings and a record of which library photos the app has already checked for receipts.
How your receipts are read
Text recognition (Apple Vision) and receipt understanding (Apple Intelligence) run on your iPhone. Receipt images and text are not sent to us or to any other service for processing.
Permissions the app asks for
Camera
To scan paper receipts. Scans are saved only inside the app.
Photos
To import receipt photos and screenshots you choose, and, if you use Find receipts in Photos, to look through photos in the date range you pick and find the receipts among them. Photos are checked on your iPhone. The app never changes, deletes or uploads your photos; it saves its own copy of the receipts you choose to add.
Location
Only while you use the app, to record where a receipt was scanned. Photos you import keep the location saved in the photo, if any. To show a place name such as “Swanston St, Melbourne”, the app sends the coordinates (not the photo) to Apple’s location service. You can turn location off at any time; the app works without it.
Notifications
For reminders to capture a receipt after a card payment. Reminders are scheduled on your iPhone.
Emailing receipts
When sending is on (Settings › Sending), each receipt that is ready and filed under a business with a bills email is emailed to that address from receipts@billwillsort.com. Personal receipts are never sent. To do this, the app sends our service:
- the receipt photo, resized for email;
- the merchant, date and amount, used for the email subject;
- the business name and the recipient address.
Our service runs on Cloudflare and delivers the email with Cloudflare Email Service. We don’t store the photo or the receipt details after the email is sent.
To stop misuse, each request is signed with an anonymous key created by Apple’s App Attest on your iPhone, which proves it comes from the genuine app. We keep that key, a monthly count of emails sent, and a one-way hash of each recipient address to apply the monthly limit and to help with delivery problems. None of this identifies you, and none of it is linked to your other data.
You can turn sending off at any time. Receipts then stay on your iPhone only.
Information shared with others
We don’t sell or share your data. Emailed receipts go to the bills address you set, through Cloudflare as described above (Cloudflare’s Privacy Policy). The app also relies on these parts of iOS, which are covered by Apple’s Privacy Policy:
- Apple’s location service, for place names as described above.
- Apple Maps, if you choose to open a receipt’s location.
- iCloud or computer backups of your iPhone, which may include the app’s data, depending on your backup settings.
What we don’t do
- No account or sign-in.
- No storage of your receipts or photos on our servers.
- No analytics, crash reporting, advertising or tracking across apps and websites.
- No reading of your email, bank accounts or full Apple Wallet history.
Keeping and deleting your data
Your data stays in the app until you delete it. You can delete a single receipt by swiping left in the receipt list or from the receipt screen. Deleting the app removes all of its data from your iPhone, except copies in your backups.
Children
The app is a business tool and is not directed at children under 13.
Changes to this policy
If a future version handles data differently, we will update this policy and the effective date before that version is released.
